Clavicle X-Rays

Here are the x-rays of my fractured clavicle, which happened at the painful end of an otherwise great day mountain biking. Click on the small images to see larger versions.

7/20/2001: These first two were taken in the ER shortly after my little spill. The first shows the break pretty well. The middle section of bone is broken free and then splintered into several pieces. The technical description by the orthopedic surgeon  is that this is a "really funky fracture". The end got split much like you split firewood. It kind of looks like a snake with its mouth wide open in the picture. The second x-ray is harder to see - they were looking for a shoulder dislocation.

7/25/2001: The next two are several days later, after wearing a brace. The pieces are starting to come back up together, but we're still far off from being normal.

8/22/2001: Back again after a month. A cloud of material is starting to form that will someday turn to new bone, but it's going to be at least another month in the brace before that happens. Sigh...
